Looking for a Salary Hike? Become a certified project manager

If you are an IT professional looking to boost your career then upgrade your resume with Project Management Professional (PMP) certification might be worth considering.

Certifications such as PMP, offered by the Project Management Institute, give you high earning potential, according to PMI’s ‘Earning Power: Project Management Salary Survey’.

Those with PMP certification get an average 20 per cent higher salary than those without one, says the survey. For instance, in India, the median salary of those with a PMP certification is 17 lakhs (12 lakhs for those without the qualification).

The report also suggests that project management experience has a key impact on salaries globally. The median salary range for those just starting out in project management and those who have been in the field for 20 years is 14 lakhs to 31 lakhs.

The data show that just 12 per cent of women have PMP certification, and there is a huge gap in the salary ranges for men and women. The average pay for men ranges between 6, 59,179 and 21, 73,384, whereas, women earn between 4, 60,107 and 17, 54,870.
